Nope it's not a young hellbender...plus it is awfully big for any salmander larvae...
Well take some of your fish back to the wild then.It belongs in the wild...

I won't worried about these predators eating mudpuppies as they don't seems prey on these mudpuppies more often. Possible due to mudpuppies being distasteful to these predators....It was not a Hellbender, they have 5 rear toes and a gill slit not external like this.
I released it back to where it came from.
I believe due to its age it was just too old to be kept and it was not happy at all.
It didnt eat any minnows when i introduced them, it just was not going to be comfortable.
It was a very interesting creature though.
Hopefully it does well, where i got him is full of Pike, Walleye and Bass![]()
Yes the hellbender do have external gills when they are young but not at THAT size in the picture....
I wish I can find some mudpuppy in Minnesotaall I caught is tiger salamander larvas.
they sell them for a dollar at the bait shop here.
