Muskie Growth Rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would go with 5 feet, but 6!!! Maybe eventually it would, but that would take quite a while! 5' is monstrous!

bro you can go on and on wit this .. this fish and any fish kept in captivity must have ideal condition's . to grow out fully , a member stated correctly when he said " if your fish don't reach there wild size then you need a big tank..

eaither way it will be year's (1 1/2 to 2 year) before it will reach anything over 2 feet

a 250 gal with an additional 250 gal made in to a wet/dry filter would be a minimul set up to say the least and only house one musky nothing else ( not that anything else would live more then a day).

I found this while going through the net looking up about fishing for them. I know you have some funny state laws etc and I really don’t know if it’s relevant but here goes.

Quote”I bought a tiger muskie from a fish store in Milwaukee. I grew it to about 21 inches long. I was awesome watching it feed. I was told that it is legal to have one in a tank BUT you then are NOT allowed to keep a muskie EVER.(should be practing CPR anyways)The fish in your tank counts against your dailly limit. Also keep the sales slip from sale since it is under size. Remember it is actually illegal to stock the fish so dont get caught at a boat ramp with a 20 incher in your cooler.LOL”

Wondering if anyone has info on how fast muskies will grow. Any of the species would be great (tiger, Spotted, True). Thanks!

All esox grow with amazing speed. I kept lucius once at 4". It put on more than an inch a month. At a young age these fish should be kept alone as they will eat over half thier wight a day if allowed to. Lots of bad info in this thread. Chiclis addict is right about hybrid vigor and Jeff you're wrong again about overall size as adult.

If you have to ask about growth rate of an esox you probably should stay away from these fish. It's common knowledge these fish grow at amazing speed and it's difficult to slow growth rate without keeping them alone.

Im from the great state of WISCONSIN WHOO GO BADGERS THIS WEEKEND anyways muskies have been caught in wisconsin HUGE, as big as 6 feet, remeber wiscosin does have more lakes, not many people actually know that but they DO. Anyways muskies grow fast, it doenst matter with size of tank...also its all about water conditions. I know a fish guide up in the north part of the state, that was aloud to take muskies from teh lakes and raise them, he had one raiesed @ 52" and let them go, he has 16000 gallon tank in his bait shop

Thats sweet! Where is he located up north...I may just have to make a trip up there just to see it! I must say though that youre probably not going to see one thats 6' long...5' is a monster catch in WI. We're talking 60" here! I know of some lakes around me that have 50 -55" and I'm sure a little larger, but 72"? That might be a 1:1,000,000 chance to ever see one! Thanks for the info GOODYBOY!

Wisconsin state record: 63.5" or (5.29') back in 1949

Maybe I am crazy, but why in the heck would anyone want to keep a muskie in a tank? This fish is way too large. Very few people have tanks large enough to properly house them. Just because you like to fish for them does not mean you should keep one. Why?
Big Pleco, how big is your largest tank? If it is not at least 1000 gallons, then you should not keep a muskie!
