55 hmmm? less than six months. Then what would you do with it? Release it? NOT EVEN AN OPTION! Kill it is what you would have to do! Unless by the slim chance a public aquarium would take it. So why have it in the first place? Guess you could eat it? WHY? Come on guys ther are plenty of interesting native fish that are home tank friendly. Grass pickerel for instance, just like a muskie in appearance and demeanor, but you can actually house one comfortably for the duration of its life.! Pretend it is a muskie!

I completly agree. I just got my grass pickerel and I have already people ask me if it is a northern pike! Honestly what is the obsession with giant fish if you don't have the facilities to keep it. Yes I know I have the infamous LMB and Bowfin both of which get HUGE.....but I have the space to keep them. Why do you just HAVE to keep these fish if you have too small of a tank? Go with a pickerel and I promise you will not be dissapointed. If you have a big tank you could even keep a chain pickerel which look even more like muskie but they get about 4'.

I have 6 13" muskies in my 265 gallon tank and feed them 80 feeders a day...theres also a 9" pike and a 6" peacockbass and everyone gets along just fine.....muskies r the coolest fish out. i also have a tank with 23 red bellys, and got tanks with black piranha in them as well....but i like my muskies the best.

You will be getting rid of a lot of muskies by next fall.

get a tiger muskie... they are the most agressive species of musky which means they r more fun to watch hunting..

wow you've got to be kidding.................right............lol that is nuts

I bought two babies 6 weeks ago, they were 2 inches long. They are now 8 inches long. So about an inch a week so far, LOL

i'm looking to get 10-12 muskies preferrably tigers in my 1600 gallon pond soon does anyone know where to buy them?

I think a dozen is a bit much for a pond that size. You can find them at a store that has a permit to sell natives.

tiger muskys 8 feet? lol where did you hear that. as far as i knew tigers stayed smaller then the true "spotted" muskys of the great lakes.

last yr or maybe it was two yrs ago some spring walleye fisherman caught a 59 inch or it might have been 60.5 inch true (spotted) musky below the fox river damn as it empties in to lake michigan in green bay. i guess its weight would have been a record but it was caught out of season and therefore didnt count. was released :) im sure there are some close to 6 footers out there. some real lunkers. im guessing they are in the big lake. i wonder how many 6 footers were caught way back in the day before records and such were kept. im talking 1800s and real early 1900s.

i bet with warmer water temp your musky could be pushing 20-24 inches in one yr.
