This is silly. I quit drinking alcohol a few years ago but the NEED bug is still biting me. I'll resolve to buy no coffee but when I go by the stand my money just flies onto the counter and a cup of coffee seems to pour itself before my eyes and I don't even blink until I'm two buildings away and half of the cup is empty. I've read up on all of the horrible things it is doing to my body but the urge is still so strong! Who here has kicked the cup? How did it go and what should I be aware of? Will drinking excess water help ward off headaches or am I just screwed on that?
I've been trying to cut back for a few weeks and have my mg's down to under 600mg of caffeine per day on average, which is better than the suicide dosages I was on. I know it's not exactly a good tapering off, but I've got to quit now. I'm just sick and tired of being sick and tired and my excuses are getting flimsier by the day. Any hope for a jittery addict?

dude, your already on thr right track. caffine is better then a bottle any day. when i stopped caffine the headaches were ridiculuuuuusly bad. i just took tylenol to help. if you have a addictive personality this is probably not a good idea as acetaminophen is worse then caffine in the long run. I started slowley to kick it trying to cut down one thing at a time. and tried to resist and stay away from areas that sell it. also i changes part of my routine to give me less time to stop at the store in the morning to get some and go straight to work. and keep busy. once you stop just think about how much of a pain it was to quit. good luck.

i quit drinking and smoking and now am a caffeine addict, i would love to kick the coffee habit .

exersize is suppost to help but that crap is not for me. and also i started taking vitamins, someone recomended it to me i really dont know if it helped but i know it didnt hurt.

goto a health food/vitamin store and see what they say, or just ask a doctor.

oh and the rewards are great i hated having to be dependent on caffine just so i could deal with the day

Or vicadin?:D You drunk puppy...

Seriously, even though it might not seem serious to many, it is a nagging negative force in many lives.
I already take a one-a-day and exercise, so I've got that covered. It's not that I don't feel good and enjoy life. I just love the kick in the chest and frickin' floaty feeling caffeine gives. I mean, I'm hating it now, but I think you know what I mean. Things are fine, but there is this magic black water that has yee-haw, and I like yee-haw a lot, so down it goes. Argh!

I can't wait to be free. Just thinking about it gives me hope.

Smoking. Thank God I hate the smell and like my voice. Having seen the people around me hit the puff stick, it's a safe guess I'd be hooked line and sinker on that one. I hope you can do it. One thing at a time, though. I was told in rehab that kicking one addiction per year is enough to keep most people out of trouble in the long run. Helps to reduce stress and cement the new lifestyle before shaking things up again. Makes sense to me.

yeah im on track for kicking one negative thing outa my life each year for the past 3 years. drugs(the illiegal ones) were first, then alcohol, then caffine/fastfood(used to get them both at the same places :)).

smoking for me is like caffine for you. i know its bad, i try not to do it alot, want to stop....but i love it. i can go 2-3 days without smoking and do it often but i really do it because i like to. call it bs or what you want but thats how it is for me.

im really wanting to kick smoking now cause my last pack almost cost me 7 bucks... thats retardededded.

Yeah. You'd think the money alone would stop us. Nope. Support is good though. I feel stronger now. Thank you buck_wildest. I'm going to update this thread with progress (or failure) reports for a few days to be accountable to someone.

I had to quit the illegal stuff, too. The most important part was leaving the people I knew. I still miss my old friends, but they are slowly dying (many are already dead!) and I'm only getting younger and happier as the years begin to add up. Totally worth it.

Fastfood gets easier to hate every year as more and more people get on the healthy train. I still crumble maybe twice a year. I don't half-arse it though. I go to McDeath and get a double greaseburger. That was I feel like passing out for a few hours and don't try it again for six months. Very effective. The weirdest part of having a healthier diet is that I now actually get cravings for Kale and Zucchini.
