The aquarium isn't outside but in my sun room. It is centrally heated in the winter along with the rest of the house.

They wouldnt last too long outside here in the winter. Our summers in the UK are crappy let alone the winters!!!

Never had problems with algae apart from on the cover glass where the water splashes. As you can imagine when the fish take the food off the surface there is a lot of water movement. You can feel the glass vibrate when the P Bass takes his food.

The roof of my sunroom is as I mentioned above thick polycarbonate that is uv protected and has a filter covering on it which only lets a % of the light through. It has worked really well.
 
I have a large Bifasciatum and a trio of synspilum so wondering whether to add them or if it will tip it over the edge.

Anyone got a coin.................
 
i would try you can always take them out of the tank ,and how big exactly are your viejas ??
