Awesome craftsmanship. Cool hat, did it come with the tool purchase? Is that MDF or HDF that you used for the skin? Can't wait to see the finished product.

regular ol' mdf...
i really wanted to stick to products found at major hardware stores. i could have gone poplar or oak. oak is ugly and large quality stock of poplar get can pricey.
i'll do a walk around video showing all the detail. besides the interior pine, there is no piece of wood that doesn't have some sort of edge detail (meaning you can't use plywood).
my dad bought me the hat, with a mug, few shirts, and a pull-over. love rigdid. 3 year warranty and limited lifetime warranty on everything. they produce the top mitre saw... haven't used the new bosch with the arm instead of the rail and ball-bearing set-up. i have a ryobi right now. i'm grateful to have it, nothing like the ridgid though. i could cut a 7" crown upside down.

the most important thing with mdf is water exposure. kind of funny that i would use it for an aquarium stand ain't it? you just have to be comfortable and understand what you are doing with that. i'll do a video of how to properly finish the "end-grain" of mdf. without sealing it properly it'll suck up like a dang sponge.
True, but the cool thing about MDF is the minimal prep prior to painting. Thanks in advance for the video. I know carpentry too and have my own tools but my knowledge is still very basic compared to your level. So hats off to you for sharing something like this. We can all benefit from your build.
minimal prep, better than plywood, but the beauty of it is that you can "cut" into the end grain and leave it exposed. trying to prep the end grain of a panel of plywood, you're screwed. haha
Keep it coming.I really like how you put in so much attention to every little detail. Everything from the side panels to moldings. Can't wait to see the finished product. It looks like an expensive piece of furniture.

been building stuff for a kitchen and trying to bang it out by the early part of this week.
next few steps will be prep work, sealing, priming, etc... paint would be last of course.
will be buying my soft-close hinges this coming week along with the panel clips for the sides. i may do hinges for the sides, but non soft-close with touch latches.
