My 125 gallon stand, progress! pic heavy!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no fire, WATER!

i was in prepping. that's when you ur scraping, sanding, spraying sealing all under angled lighting to see what your doing (high and low points).

my joints were pulling apart plywood swelling, etc.

anyways, waiting for it to get cooler, should be done by christmas.

Oh no! Sorry to hear about the damage. Your tank was looking AMAZING. My boyfriend and I were reading, hoping to see your finished product... Looking to maybe do it ourselves in the near future. Eager to see more updates, and see how this one turns out... OR... how the next one begins!

Alot of my joints were pulling apart. =( sealed most of the warping and moved the stand into a dryer/warmer section of my shop.

I have to trim off quite a bit of the doors and reapply some sort of trim work to the perimeter.

As for the stand itself I have alot more sanding and prepping to do. I sealed up the majority of the more problem areas with "stone epoxy". stuff sets up like glass.

Definitely with be going from a distressed look so I'm not pulling out my hair in the long run.

Will try and have some more pics and timeline together by the first of the year.

my base molding had such a freaking wave in it from all the moisture.

i had to belt sand and plane that straight.

the doors i'm gonna have to trim off the perimeter and replace it from all the warpage.

if i had just sealed everything before hurricane season. =(

the reason why i paint it black is it's easier for me to see voids. and plus it's a laquer based product so it seals up the grain very nice.

on another note which is an exciting one to say the least.... in the recessed panels on the doors and side panels I will be upholstering.

you maybe thinking wtf? but I have found faux python, crocodile, alligator, rattlesnake, and lizard hides.

what i'm gonna do is measure the recess, cut the material a little bigger, glue the majority of the surface area with upholstery adhesive, fold over my excess and super-glue the fold together on itself....

....and for the finishing touch i will be using hammered bronze "clavos" (fancy decorative nails, upholstery tacks) in each corner and then like every inch or inch and a half.

with that alligator hide? WHATTTTT SONNNNNNN!?!??!?!?!

wow faux animal skin finishes!! i don't think i've seen that on a stand yet. can't wait to see this!!

That's gonna be one unique looking stand!

purchased everything i need to complete this sucker minus the hardware.

have decided to go with hinged doors and touchlatches on the side panels....just easier.

1st of many coats of paints.

more of a poop brown but as soon as i scuff up my moldings the black show through. gives it so much character fo sho.

a little bit more prep in this stage along with the paint. this is when i'll be distressing and gouging with my chisels, flat headed screw drivers, awls, and chains. (believe)

i have a sandy beige going on top of this and then a satin "peanut butter" on top of that.

but my most important goal is to still have black coming through 3 colors of paint.

have included the croc hide, so stoaked about that had to bring the g/f by joann fabrics.

and i picked out my "clavos". do 1 big one in the corners of my panels and doors and fill in the rest with the smaller.

thanks for looking ya'll!
