My 125g Stand and Canopy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Day 1 is complete. Still have to put the plywood on the top and bottom, but at least the stand frame is done. The canopy frame will be done in a couple days I'd imagine.

So I messed up...Have to put four more pieces on the back, as I only have the inner supports there. I don't trust the screws to hold that kind of weight. At least it will only be a ten minute fix. This is my first build, and I'm not a very experienced wood worker. I'm sure it will hold after I put the other supports in. :)

Add another mess up to the list...When I divided by three to put the center braces in, I forgot to account for the way I did the corners. You'll notice in the picture that the outside holes are a little smaller than the middle. I have a feeling they're 1 1/2" smaller. I should be able to fix that with the oak panels though. At least my storage section has plenty of room. lol

Went and bought all the trim except for the crown molding. It's looking like I'll be a little bit under budget, but we'll see.

Another day done...The stand should be done this weekend if I had to guess. Bought the molding today...My wallet still hurts.

It's finally coming together! We're going to do the canopy on Saturday, and do the doors if we have time. The last picture is the goodies I received today. :D

Liking the progress. I built my 42" tall stand similar to yours for my 195 gal. I still haven't skinned it yet. Have you decided what doors to use or making it?

The doors will be panel doors using the birch ply. I'll frame them out and finish them with more molding. I still haven't decided what I'm doing with that gap. I may put my last name with some designs, or I may use that spacing measurement to match the canopy. The doors won't be even from top to bottom in reference to the stand height, but it should still look nice when it's finished. I hope...lol

The canopy is pretty much done and the doors are framed. I still have to trim out the doors, but it's so close I can smell it. One more good day of work and it'll be time to sand and finish. What do you guys think of the lid? :D

Wow...Over 400 views and no one is willing to comment? Did I do something really bad or something?
