My 125g Stand and Canopy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Today was a busy day for sure. The steel wool rub down was tough...Then I went and got a new couch and love seat, which meant rearranging the entire living room. My buddy put another coat of clear on after I was done, so the stand itself should be home tomorrow or the day after. We still have to do another coat on the lid to finish it all up. Prices and pictures to come!

Got the first coat on the top of the lid. About to go grab some lunch and then we'll start with the steel wool again. One more coat and it's all complete! Anyway, here's the stand and canopy. Sorry for the poor picture quality.

Well...My buddy and I had a fall out, so he won't be finishing this. He started cutting corners and I'm not happy with the "finished" product. I have to strip the clear to get all of the orange peel and trash out. I also have to fill in a lot of nail holes. I'm obviously not very happy, as I have to redo much more than I should. Here's the picture though...Sorry for the rant.

Sucks that you guys had a falling out. Hopefully its something that you can continue to be friends regardless of frustrations. The stand looks nice!

He mouthed off a bit too much on top of a not so great finish job that I paid him to do. Add that onto the fact that he likes to make sexual comments to my wife, and it's pretty easy to see why we won't be talking. Fortunately for you guys, you can't see the terrible orange peel due to picture quality. ;) My father and I started this project, so karma is catching up with me for taking this away from him. Another mistake made that I will never make again. Now I just have to try to rekindle our relationship, as what I did really hurt him. I should be wet sanding and filling holes soon enough. If I were to guess, I'd say that I've added another week onto this project. At least it will be done right. Thank goodness I only have one fish that's waiting for this tank! :)

Good job. Looks great!

A minor update, but an update nonetheless. I couldn't work on the stand this weekend, because I had to tear my bathroom floor up. Talk about fun...After asking quite a few people, it looks like I'll have to break out the steel wool once again to smooth it out. I'll probably do 3 different grades to get it where I want to. Here's a pic of why I'm so upset about the finish quality. The whole thing is covered in orange peel. I used to rebuild paint guns and pumps, so I've learned a few things about how they work. He didn't listen...

Well, my arms hurt now. The top and canopy are done being steel wooled. I used 1, 00, and 0000 to smooth out the orange peel.

This is an example of craftsmanship. Of someone who want to do things right the first time. You do good work!!
