My 15" Sun Catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow this is really uncommon (thought i might bring this thread back to life) how big of a tank is that big boy in i sure hope he is still alive they live about 8-15 years i know TBTB had his for a while his are also pretty big as well

Would you update us, FASTLANE, pretty please?

Wonderfully big sun cat! Yeah, mine 6 are younger, <5 years and are only about 11"-12" TL atm. This must be the record largest I have ever personally seen ... , of course, seeing a tape measure would be nice. Not that I don't trust you - it is just perfect for documenting and cuts down on debating - it is really 15", is it TL (total length), is it SL (standard length = crudely not counting the tail), etc., you know.

Anyways, the current max on PCF is 18" SL, perhaps ~21" TL.

Sorry guys I never saw the posts here until now. Anyway to update this fish is thriving in his tank. He has always been in the same tank which is a very well maintained 75 GAL with rocks to hide under although the larger he gets the tougher it is to hide entirely. I feel at his size he has out grown the tank but he is so stationary I wonder if I should just keep him in the 75? He's in there with a Red Bahia another Geophagus 2 small severum and a med. size pleco. I have a big powerhead circulating oxygen and a Eheim 2217 filter running. I started introducing beef heart into his diet a few weeks ago and he loves it biut only eats with the lights off. Food can hit him in the face with lights on and he won't touch it.

i would definatly upgrade to a bigger tank (at absoulute minimal of 150 but 180 should be 10x better but do you have any better pics
