I used he green scrub pad and my glass got scratches.

I got the one that said it wouldn't scratch glass ... it was actually blue & not green. It worked really well & didnt scratch.

Really nice work! I'm so jealous of a free 150!!

Thank you! The only reason I ended up with this for free is b/c the guy owes my dad a whole lot of money & hasn't been paying him. Dad knew I wanted this tank & told him if he gave it to me he would knock a little bit off his debt. lol.

It has been quiet a bit of work but totally worth it. I added a valve to control the water flow to the pipe that goes up from the pump last night b/c it was draining the water out faster than it was going in ... I'm still trying to get that set exactly where it should be. It has helped a lot; its not sucking air now at least.

The water is still a little cloudy. I'm wondering when that will actually clear up. I looked at the filter media last night & the pads I got from the LFS are already dirty which made me feel like some of the dirt I didnt get off the rocks may actually be getting sucked up. So, hopefully in a couple days it will be clear.

I can't wait to put the oscars in there!!

You could put a finer mesh pad in there for a few days to "polish" the water. I think charcoal helps with water clarity as well.

What I've done but is not an option for most people. When I need the water really clean I have a Diatom filter I run on the tank. It filters down to 1 micron. It'll even filter out Ichk parasites.

I made a terrible 'sandstorm' when I poured 50lbs of un-rinsed (home depot) play-sand in my tank, and it was crystal clear 3 days later. (well.. 3 days and 3 100% water changes /grin)

Shouldn't be more than a couple of days for it to filter/settle out.

I rinsed the gravel ... all 50-75 pounds of it. lol. The stuff was covered in mud & I thought I got most of it off ... but its still pretty cloudy. I added a couple marineland charcoal filters in between the layers of stuff I got from the LFS. I hope they help. I'm getting really excited & I want to add the oscars to the tank; I'm trying very hard to control myself! lol

Wait for it.... wait for it....

No rushing. Fish don't like that. An uncycled dirty tank would be bad.

<--- hehe. 100th post. How lame am I for pointing it out.

nice, the sand i bought was the first thing i ever bought that didnt cloud up my water ( in my thread i just updated :))... ive waited up to 2 weeks for tanks to clear with gravel and sand... if it doesnt clear up soon lfs carry water clarifier. Haha if your like me and just cant wait that stuff is magic in a bottle :D
