My 1500gal plywood build (pics)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I live by the quad cities so eastern Iowa. I will disclose the total amount after I finish but it looks as if I will come in under budget at $1 per gal. Keep in mind that's the entire room not just the pond.

I am officially done with working on the "room" today and can work can start on the pond tomorrow! Just need to install one more piece of crown molding in the morning, and that shelving unit (white thing in the pond) than I can install the insulation and liner. Got the holes for the bulkheads drilled today and test fitted them. I have never done bulkheads before so I hope I install them right tomorrow the first time so there is no leaks. I also finished the tile and am finishing the trim as I type this. Looks like I may get water in it Thursday night.

making up where the pumps will be. There will be 2 5k gph external pumps with a fan to cool them.

Instead of using a fan to cool the pumps I would use a 12v PC extraction fan to vent the heat back in to the room...this will help heat the pond and the air in the room. You have paid for that heat in your electricity bill.....you may as well make use of it.

I think you can run those fans off cheap Solar panels....you could even run the solar panels off the tank lighting for more free / paid for energy but if you do that you need to add ventilation for when the lights are off.

My swimming pool pump runs pretty hot but it was designed that way.

The pond water also cools the pumps anyway.

First 8" of water are in!! pics later on. Just finishing up the plumbing as water is just under the bulkheads. Hoping it will be full this time tomorrow

Have a small leak in one of the bulkheads :( need to tighten it but I need someone to hold side in the pond so gotta wait.....

Ok Im pretty sure I have gotten the leak stopped in the bulkhead now I just need to finish plumbing the filter. Gonna leave 16" of water in it overnight. Pics are coming
