my 150g :D

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have been runnng a 150 extra tall for 4 months.....Love the tank although yours is in much better shape than mine! Careful! The tank presents a much heavier footprint than a 180 gallon. 1500lbs spread out on 48" is rough. i have mine on the first floor and braced the joists with a 18,000 lb floorjack and the floor still sagged a bit. The three filters you show will turn over a decent amount of water.....should work fine though a bit noisy. You will need some grabbers and other tools as I am sure you are realizing you cannot reach the bottom of your tank even with a step stool! Good Luck and enjoy!!

I can reach the bottom with a latter. our house is old so our bracing, and truces etc are all made from actually hard wood compared to that soft pine like it is now. the dimension are 48"Lx24"xWx31". The stock is going to be a oscar, 1 lima shovel-nosed catfish, clown loaches and bala sharks.

I have 4 filters and 2 power heads. I plan on using the one on my 55g to help get some bb in my tank, and im going to take my driftwood and also do a 50% water change in my 55g and put it in my 150g when I start to fill. So I'll have 3 filters running and then in a couple weeks im going to get a small cannister filter to match up with my eheim.

dimensions=dims ....btw man i just got a 150, and i live right down the road from you, what do you plan to stock yours with? and will that eheim and the biowheels be able to filter everything efficiently? or is it just the eheim?

lol where do you live?

the guy who owned it before me just had the 2 biowheels for filtration and it worked great he said? however.. if he really had enough i dont think theyre would of been algae all over it? am I right?

Algae has nothing to do with filtration. Algae grows given nutrients and light. Fish provide plenty of nutrients and you supply the light! Old houses can be very strong but make damn sure you are on a load bearing wall! FYI unless you are doing it to help acclimate fish I would not add the water from your 55. The water holds no helpful bacteria and will add nitrates which will make it more difficult to tell when you are actually cycled. Add the decor, some gravel or sand and old filter media to jump start!! Good Luck!!

should I take my filter media out and like swish it around my 150g? or should I just put the filter in there and let it run? Also the carbon in my fluval u4, can I take the holder out and clean the carbon in the 150g will that help at all?

Good job cleaning, looks nice. Best thing to do to jump start a new tank is move a filter or two onto the new tank. I have used squeezings from media to jumpstart a QT before. Just test your water often so you know whats going on
