beautiful fish! Awesome specimens. I noticed that you live in Ohio, which freezes during the winter, so with the tarp, how cold does the water get? And how much energy is used to heat the pond or the amount difference you pay in gas? As I want to build something like that in California, and its not nearly as cold here, but it does drop the the 30s at night for a few days out of a year, and I would want to know how much my heating bill will cost me :)

Best,

Wes
During the the coldest part of winter I keep the pond set at 50F.We somtimes get temps as low as -15F without big jumps in cost.I don't have it on a separate meter so I don't know what the cost is.But I sure it is less than the cost of sick fish or replacing even one koi.In California you may maintain mid 50s or more with just a good cover and a few sunny days.Go to AKCA.org and find the koi club nearest you. They could give you much better local info.

I started out disliking the square ponds, the hard corners & edges, the non-natural look. And then I realized that the elegance and sophistication they offer visually is amazing. It's simplicity that allows you to focus on what the container is for; Gorgeous koi for a man devoted to their beauty.
Props on providing your Koi such a happy environment

Ever tried putting some waterlilies in there? Your koi will likely enjoy the cover. They should look great in there too.

I don't want water lilies in my koi pond. The koi don't need the cover,my pond is always 50% or more shaded. However behind it I have this watergarden with some longfin koi.

So are you swimming in the pond as I type this seen as it is the fourth of july!
I did go in for a moment to retrieve my broken drain cover.I fixed it with some epoxy and I'll be going in for another longer dip :nilly: when I replace it later.
