Other than this, not really...

I've been too busy brewing beer to push this along at the speed it deserves, but I've built up a decent stock-pile so can now focus on the tank. I have the glass for 2400x1200x700, and I'm investigating options for a stand as my engineer friend is flat out and probably can't start it for another six weeks. I'll start a proper thread with correct dimensions in the title etc etc once the stand is on the way and there's something worth updating...

looking forward to this-like the idea of a shorter (height) stand and would be interested to see how this is done with steel.

Are you on the North island? Many years ago I stayed with friends in Napier and New Plymouth and would like to know the area you live in as it looks beautiful (mind you I fopund most of the North Island nice!). How is the MFK scene in NZ? Do you have much choice?

Yep I'm up the top of the North Island, small town called Whangarei a couple of hours north of Auckland. Napier is a lovely part of the country, my father is from there and I spent many summers there as a kid.

I like the low stand as it puts the tank st eye level when you're sitting on the couch, plus it makes it far easier to clean.

Josh there will probably be some degree of automation for water changes, but we live out of town and rely on rain water collected off our roof so the tank needs to be as efficient as possible with water consumption. I'm aiming for as small a weekly change as possible, hopefully under 30%.

Remember well Whangerai-or Fangerai!. I stayed with some friends in Tauranga (as well as Taradale near Napier). That part of NZ and further north was beautiful.

What you said about the stand was what I liked too. Cleaning that beast will be much less hassle

haha yep, faang-a-ray...

Your part of the world is very nice too, I stayed with friends of our family for a few days not far from where you are (Monks Kirby), in fact I found most of England every bit as beautiful as NZ, just in a different way. It all depends what you're used to I guess. Our country feels so young and lacking in history by comparison, it's a funny feeling drinking in a pub that is older than the country you live in!!

As for the MFK scene here, we are very limited by our tough import laws, small population and limited market. We're incredibly limited in what we can get here, the only one-up we have over the US is that we can get asian arowanas, only occasionally though and rather expensive though.
