My 190 gallon tank - suggestions are welcomed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like a geo tank to me. Maybe a school of rainbows or denison barbs for upper water activity or a couple dozen tetras if you want to stay more more biotopish.

If i am getting geophargus, im getting the Tapajos Orange head.
I'm thinking of getting 8, then reducing them to 6 if it becomes crowded when fully grown.

I'm also thinking of adding nicaragua cichlids at the same time, 4-6 of them.

These will all be just 4-6 cm when i get them, giving them the place and time to grow up together.
But i'm thinking perhaps some plecos, or maybe cory's, but not quite sure yet. And maybe a small shoal of fish.
In anycase, i will add all the other fish first, let them settle, and then add the cichlids.

Going with fishes from the same continent would be nice, but since my plants are not, i'm open to others as well.

Anyone know what type of fish shares the habitat of the Anubias?
I belive anubias is african, and javafarn south east asian.

I also do like the look of certain bichirs, but I don't wish to have a fish that is mostly active at night or is just at the bottom.
After all this is going to be a tank where I'll want to watch fishes swimming around.

So, any suggestions or thoughts on a different type of fish combination?
I am however leaning towards the Geophargus with Nicaragua option.

School of tiger barbs is always cool

I love Tiger Barbs, but are they compatible with my Geos and Nicaraguas?
I don't want any underwater harrasment in my tank, since the cichlids will be around the same size, or just a little bit bigger then the tigers, would they not try to nip at the fins?

How many would you recommend if it's compatible to get? 15-25?

Red head and orange head tapajos, i'm guessing is pretty similiar to each other.

Very nice tank in that video.

I still have 3-4 weeks to decide, maybe more on what types of fish i want.
I remember when i first got the tank and was thinking of what i wanted, i was close to loose my mind...
''Ooo, i want that..but I can't have that with this..'' and this went on for a long time.

So I just gave up with what types of fishes I wanted, and started to think of what kind of hardscape and plants I wanted, and then I sort of thought it would make it easier for me to then find the suitable fish I would want.

Not exactly made it easier, but certainly narrowed it down a bit.. Malawi and Tanganyika is out, so are any plant eating fish.

Unfortunatly, I don't have the space for more tanks, but I sort of get my 'fix' every week when I visit all my local shops every saturday.

I use to keep Rosie and tiger barbs with my goldfish way back in my beginner days but as long they are fed I found the fin nipping is slim to none

Its such a hard choice I'm with you on that one that's why I've got so many tanks set up ;):D
I'm sure whatever you choose will look great as plenty of thought has gone into it , it does shout geo tank to me though , or have you thought about severums ? Ive never kept them myself but they would look good in a community in your tank , Just another ball for you to juggle hahaha

I don't find severums that appealing, they sort of look "fake"..

But yeah, It looks like it's going to be geo's, I keep coming back to them.

I also wanted to have a fahaka, but not sure if I want to dedicate a tank to a single fish and one that's going to potentially ruin my plants.
