My 190 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm also performing a large water change tomorrow and to check and rinse some of the filter pads if needed and to change the purigen.

I've noticed lately lots of small particles in the water, so clearly something is clogged up, but nothing harmful for the fish, but not pleasing to the eye.

Will also do some plant maintenance and try to change the direction of outflow on the pumps to find a good way to circulate the water in the tank, without creating strong currents in spots where the angelfish sleeps or swims, as they do enjoy slow flowing currents due to their body shape, and to me the angel fish are centerpiece of the tank.

I've always wanted angels with these colors, as I've always had black, yellow and white angels before, these are my absolute favorite angels I've owned.
They are small, but given time they will grow to be majestic, hopefully I can take care of them properly.

Edit:
I forgot to mention that I've seen this morning two of the Bolivian Rams "mouth wrestling".
They are either fighting for a female or establishing rank I'm guessing, very interesting to watch.

And as I'm writing this, I'm noticing the male acara has found a spot, and are now holding its ground against the vijeta, I will pay close attention the coming days to make sure they are suitable tank mates.

But there should be plenty of room and hiding spots for them all to get along.

Tease! :P Looking forward to seeing them once they settle in. Hope they get along with the apistos.
Do you have to pay extra for the store to hold the diamond tetras for you for that length of time? I have contemplated asking mine to do this.

I work there..

I'm holding my old roommates piranhas at the store while he's on vacation, my boss said it was fine and we don't charge for that.

It's ok as long as we have available space.

Im up early today, need to get some breakfast and get started with the tank, hopefully some photos of the new fish be posted.

Forgot I ordered this:

It's the red lizard catfish or whatever it's called.

I went to work and picked it up now, and got some frozen food with garlic.

Will start on maintenance in a few minutes, will post photos of this fish when it's released into the tank later.

Finished for today, I changed purigen in the fx6, gave it a good cleaning on the inside and the pads and foams on the side, left the biological alone of course. I haven't cleaned the fx6 since the tank was set up, I only did a purigen swap. It was filthy.

I thought the water in the fx6 was flowing from top to bottom... But all the dirt was in the bottom tray.
Perhaps next time I will change the configuration of the media to get more mechanical at the bottom and then biological filtration at the top. Anyone care to provide some insight on this?

Will clean one of the Eheims next month.

I'm thinking cleaning one filter a month, which gives them a 3 months running time before cleaning.
This way I don't disturb the balance too much.

Now I'm just waiting for the lights to come on, so I can do some plant maintenance and grab some photos of the new fish.

This fish is not shy at all!

Already it's eating and constantly out in the open.

Other fish are showing an interest as if they are wondering what it is and can it be eaten

I'm a little bit worried about the male viejita II, I haven't seen him today.

I just hope this one didn't die too...
