alright i found this stuff that came with my tank called nutrafin cycle biological aquarium supplement
it says it immediately establishes safe biological aquarium environment and that it has a powerful responsive ammonia and nitrite elimination.
it also says it allows for immediate introduction of fish after like three days. is that what i need to put in it for the nitrogen cycle stuff or is it to late now that i have fish in there? also is there a way to use fish to help cycle the tank because ive seen ppl say they use certain fish to cycle there tank on this site

I've never used cycle supplements, most need to be refridgerated to be kept a live. There is one that has spores in it and doesn't need to be refridgerated and is suppose to be pretty good.

Ammonia and nitrite is strees full to fish so some people use cheap fish to do this that they don't care if they die or shorten the life span.

If your tank has been running for 2 months with fish it could be cycled, you should get test kits to test your water. You can also take some water to the fish store and get it tested. I only have a nitrate test kit cause once your tank is cycled this is the only thing that builds up.

I brought this up because it may have been what killed your fish early on.

Reading a sticky or two about filtration and the nitrogen cycle should answer all your questions

Welcome to the hobby! Don't get discouraged by our comments, we only hope to point you in the right direction. The sunfish will definitely require a bigger tank, size varies with species and I am not sure exactly which species you have there, so can't help too much there. There are people in the natives forum that can clarify. If your tank has been running with fish for two months how many and how big of water changes have you done? Water changes help to lower nitrate, which well benefit the fish in lots of ways. I also think you should check out the stickies on cycling in the general aquaria section. Thanks and sorry about the novel lol:screwy:

Try to set up a water change schedule that works for you. Some will say anywhere from 50% per week to 25% every two weeks. It all really depends on your parameters. Have you got the water test kit? I will say in smaller tanks problems in water quality tend to sneak up faster than in larger tanks. So try to do your first waterchange, I'd say about 5 gallons, so around 33%. All you need is a bucket, some de-chlorinator (every lfs should have them), and a gravel vac and have at it. Just treat the new water with de-chlorinator before you put the new water in the tank. Let us know how it goes or if you have any questions, sorry for the novel:screwy:
