My 210 is finally up and running!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks amazing Dan! I like the 36" height for the stand, it's perfect for viewing. All my big tanks are 36" tall too, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm glad I put it up as high as I did, it really is perfect viewing height. I was going to go with 32", but the wife wanted it to match the height of the counters. It is a bit of a pain to get into the tank, but that's why they make step-stools. :grinno:

Thanks for looking!

That looks great. Makes the house look awesome, it fits right in...tough to have someone complain about a tank when it looks like that

Thanks. I'm really pleased with the cabinet - it was made by a different shop than the rest of the cabinets in the house but I think he did a very good job matching them.

Yeah I agree and be glad your wife was thinking of cabinet height and not cost! :D I'm full on OCD/anal and notice the little stuff too, the different height would never stop bothering me. I have to use a ladder too.. I spend less time doing maintenance on the ladder than I do watching my fish so it's worth it. Keep me in mind if your G. Abalios ever need a home.

Do you mind my asking if your freind is reasonable on price? You can PM me if you like. I just picked up a 120g down by you and need to build a stand. It's going in our bedroom so the wife won't be OK with my usual "fugly" DIY job..

You're absolutely right, I think it would have looked just a little wrong at any other height. The ladder thing is no big deal, I really don't get into the tank that much.

The G. abalios thing could be possible some day - I think I have two males and a female, but I'm not sure yet. If the males start to fight one will have to go, so...

The cabinet wasn't cheap by any means - $2600 - but it is pretty darned cool. There is a light-mounting board that slides back for tank access and forward for bulb changes. All the cabinets have slide-out units. Plus it is White Oak, which is pretty spendy stuff. There is another removable panel (behind the right side), scribe trim, and crown moulding that need to go on, plus quarter-round trim that will go right up to the glass. If you are curious about a quote for your tank, I can PM you his contact info. The guy has quite a bit of experience building stands/hoods, he has a really nice reef (if you're into that sort of thing ;) ) of his own.

Wow that's a pretty penny but I've always been firm believer in you get what you pay for. I just can't pay for it lol...! :D Let me know on the abalios, if you are heavy males we can trade up later. I am raising 5 juvies 2.5" - 4" and have 5 adults 7"+ (2m/3f) Those sliding in and out pieces sound awesome. You should shoot a video of how everything operates so I can show my wife what she could get if she left me for a richer man..!

Well... I would never have been able to do it if my wife hadn't flooded our house. The insurance claim worked out to about $30 grand and I did a lot of the repairs myself, so I managed to work the tank costs into the whole thing. I'll have to post some photos here soon - no videos for me, I'm on dial-up...
