Yes it is tropical and I picked it up from a local (ST.Louis) pond store. You wouldn't believe the trouble I go through with a lot of my plants. I have a jungle room in my basement every winter but this may be the last, I need the space now.

Awesome!

No problems with raccoons, possums, or birds?

Great pond! Would like to see a pic of the "jungle room."
I've already planted all the tropicals for this year so that room has been cleared out.:headbang2
No problems with raccoons or possums but deer frequently drink out of it. I have worried about blue hairings though, because I live near the Missouri and Mississippi river. So far just the occasional Mallard and goose taking a look at it.

The plants in the backround, are they some sort of bannana's? The one's w/ the thick stems and large leaves. Are they hardy or potted tropicals? If so, do you take them in the winter. I'm in Chicago (Zone 5), is St. Louis that much milder in the winter. I've heard of hardy bannana's, but only the dwarf var.
