For the lid and lights it took a little work but was my cheapest option, my friend was redoing his house and had these old wood windows that fit almost perfect. so i took them home stripped the paint off them and recoated them in dry lock paint (wasn't sure what else to use). built a light hood for the top of them with 2 4' t8 light housing. it is a little heavy and i still have to get it in use, the windows will be hinged on a board at the back of the tank so i just need to prop it open for maintenance or at least that the plan
I put in the glass after i was satisfied with the pond shield, i used a 2' x 6' piece of 1/2" glass. my thought is that 1/2" was enough because it is 6 or so inches off the bottom of the tank supported by a little over a have inch on all sides. the hole front was wrapped in fiber glass inside and out. i used 4 bottles of silicone could of got a away with less but i figured more is better probably whipped off a half tube and still need to cut off a lot form the out side but got a good seal with no air bubbles first try. used ge1 window and door
I would of made the window fit tighter but was unsure how much room all the fiberglass and pond shield would take up.
So my filter will look something like this i have not installed the baffles yet i need it to hold water first. i have 3 2" bulkheads with screens two at the top one in the middle, that is the inflow i'm going to try and run two quite one 3000 for pumps each one will run a spray bar one at the top and one at the bottom . i was thinking of trying to add a filter sock but have decide a against it i have a lot of filter foam and poly wool for mechanical filtration.
So after the silicone had dried for over a week it was time to test fill. I did not fill it in stages just went for broke filled it to the top in the garage.
Here is the pumps kicking on giving a idea of the flow i'm trying for. my hope is the top one will push every thing down to the intakes and the bottom one will push everything to the front were i can remove it. or so i hope

Then after two hours dreams were broke i had a leak. It was a small pin hole air bubble burst in one of the corners and began to leak out the top of the nut in one corner. So drain it find the hole and dry it for a few days (propane heater helped raise the temp in the garage). drilled out the hole a bit to make sure i got to the bottom be for patching good thing i saved some pond shield.
