I think your off to a great start. I would add some smaller pebbles of the same colouring just to make a smoother transition from the big rocks to the substrate. Also, definitely some plants. (I love plants in my tanks.)

Thats just 1 idea, you can do so much from where you are now. Just keep an open mind. I find it helps if i walk round my local fish places and see what they have thats new, you could easily come across something you have never seen or heard of which could be perfect.

Enjoy your aquascaping, Its one of my fav things to do :)

are those plants on the background?

you should do a solid black background, get rid of the rocks and put in some drift wood and maybe some rocks that are more river looking and a lot smaller and smoother

Just looking at your pics again. This will help more than you think. Next time you give it a big clean, put a big piece of black material under your tank to drape over the polystirene and down to the floor. This will make your tank and fish stand out more.

All the best ;)

There is potential... personally the decor has to go. To many colors giving the viewer a distraction from the prize fish. I would go with dark colors to make the Cichlid stand out. Also not a fan on putting decor in a row... maybe 1-3 large rocks and then lots of small rocks?? I would say some plants but I think Cichlids tend to destroy plants and uproot them. JMO but if you likes, then who cares :D

I also would not add Tankmates with him, he looks aggressive :)

:iagree:

dark colours will make that fish pop...nice fish tho
