my 625 gallon DIY plywood aquarium build

Does any one have a conversion form pond filter capacity to fish tank size capacity. for some reason I have had a lot of trouble with ick in some of my fish tanks and have been loosing a lot of fish. I think it was because they where in temporary tanks set up to grow the fish out till I get the 625 set up. and they did not have a lot of filters in them. I currently have a TetraPond Bio-Active Pressure BP4000 Filter that is rated for 4000 gal pond. I have it set up filtering a 65 gallon tank at the moment :-) With the amount of trouble I have been having with ick I am considering getting a second canister filter. I do not want to deal with non pressurized under the tank systems.

Get some aquarium salt NOW! Increase the salinity by the recommended amount on the box (for freshwater) and the parasites will DIE, while the fish become more healthy. I put massive overdoses of ick meds in my tank and nothing worked. Aquarium salt cleared it up in a couple days. Get to the store NOW!

Oh, and too much salt will kill your fish. You give the tank 1 complete dosage, as per the instructions and then never again. If you think you need to do it again, get a test kit to figure out the saline content before you add more after that first dose.

If your fish think the salt is fun to eat (like my oscars), get a cup and dissolve the salt into it before pouring into the tank.

I tried adding salt but it did not help. I have looked but can not find salt level test kits. I used to have one for ponds but it is gone now.
The pet stores used to have cups of slat in the tanks. But they stopped doing that a while ago.

Go to Amazon.com and search for "salinity test kit". You can get it overnight if you're willing to pay a bit more.

Personally, if the ick isn't gone, I'd add a little bit more salt each day until it is gone. My fish never died before the ick.

Salt wont get it alone, heat is key. Slowly get the temp up around 90-92 if possible. Watch the fish for signs of stress. Run like that for at least 10 days and no more ich. Salt+heat+regular water changes works great! Are your lights on a timer? You probably already know, but running lights 24 hours a day stresses the fish and promotes ich.
