Turtles are doing good. Ended up returning the sump pump and running the waste water directly into the sewage line from the 40 gallon reservoir in back. Everything works perfectly now and I can do a 250 gallon water change in about 10 minutes.

LOL 10 minutes! :headbang2

Whoa! That's a serious tank!

10 minutes to do a 250 gallon water change? Consider me jealous!

You have an absolutely fantastic setup which is very well thought out.
I would like to know if you simply pump cooler sump water through your gas hot water heater based on a temperature monitor that turns on and off a circulation pump.
Have I summarised your heating system correctly?

I am so jealous of all you people who live in climates that allow for outdoor/garage tanks (or just have heated garages).

My garage hits about 100° in the summer and 0° in the winter. Sucks, because it's unusually deep (for Chicago) and I could fit a massive tank in there, with a window into my back "yard" too if not for the temperature issues...

Aside from all that, great job, great install, etc. Like I need to tell you what a good job you did. Wish I had those skills...

I have part of the water from my sump circulating through the heat exchanger, which doesn't come in contact with the domestic hot water, just transfers the heat. My thermostat is in my overflow chamber at the top of the tank which tells the circulation pump if it needs to turn on or not. The water in my sump flows through so fast that it is nearly exactly the same temperature as the tank.

The sides are all 1", and the top is 3/4". I don't remember if the bottom is 1/2" or 3/4". I have seen other 750s made out of 3/4" sides though.

Completely inspiring... Such a great build. Plumbing is awesome.
