My 75G is finally done!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Tap water is about 8.8. Just checked the tank water again its about 8.4... :/ So its my tap water. Is there anyway to fix this? Im pretty sure my piranhas would die at that level.

i keep stingrays and i only use 2 things..
prime.
seachem 7.0 regulator.
It keeps the ph, no matter how high or low, at 7.0
but they have higher and lower..depending whats best for red bellys.

i would also use either seachem or API instant cycle...it works very well..just double the dose for newly set up tanks...
i would just pour the whole bottle in there..

nice set up..cant wait to see fish in it.

good luck.

Thanks for the info!

UPDATE: I called the LFS and got some info from them. According to the guy I was talking to he said they keep their Piranha stock at a 8.2 PH level. He said they have being doing this for many years and no one has ever had an issues with their sold piranhas. He also told me that I should be fine at 8.4 since theirs are already used to a high ph in store. So I guess this means im good to go? I might still buy a "lower ph" chemical to see if that can bring it down some just a little.

I bought some API quick start and poured some in the tank. Supposedly it helps start the bacteria growth in the filter. Ill wait a couple days and see what happens. Or I may just go get some starter fish to help along with the cycle. Im normally not a very patient person but I know the importance of this and im holding back as much as possible to get this thing cycled before I put my new baby piranhas in it.

Update. The tank has been up and running for 5 days now. The Ph level actually went down naturally to around 8.2-8.4. Ive been doing a fishless cycle. Adding pure ammonia in every day. Ammonia is at about 5.0ppm Nitrites and Nitrates still at 0ppm. Ahhhhhh I dont like waiting! ha. I just want my fish now! :)
