I have Nitrites!! Ive been testing my water once if not twice a day since i got it set up a week ago. I took a water sample this morning before work and as usual the water test was clear blue (0ppm) for nitrates. I just got home from work and checked it again. It was purple! (.025-.50ppm) woooohooo!! This makes me happy. This means I'm at least halfway there. Now my question is... Should I keep adding ammonia everyday? I actually stopped adding ammonia 2 days ago because it was between 5ppm and 8ppm, which is almost too high. Right after I checked my nitrates I did my ammonia test and I'm at about 4ppm. Should I leave it be and see where I am at tomorrow morning?

Yes leave it at 4 for now. Once it starts converting it quicker, you can add more.

Just be prepared because nitrite to nitrate process can be grueling lol

I rushed it too bc I cant wait, ended up killing a few fish in the process. Lesson learned, start slow.

Update: 8 days after tank being filled. Ammonia 4.0ppm. Nitrates 5.0ppm+ (it's off the chart well over 5.0ppm) And now I have a slight Nitrate reading..5.0ppm. I've stopped adding ammonia and won't add anymore until it lowers to around 1.0-2.0ppm. I hope it get cycled soon... Hopefully by next weekend? Ughhhhhh I have terrible patience. But I know I must wait!

Large pieces of driftwood will naturally lower your ph, and also add a nice look to your tank!!
