My aro is in that stage - fasting stage

I hate that stage lol

my rtg is refusing the shrimp stuffed wiht pellet i feed him.
I have been feeding him this for more than a year!

i cut the shrimp in two pieces, the part clowsre to the head and the tail part.
i stuff both parts with massivore.

for some reason, he started refusing the meaty part which is what he usually goes for. 3 days no food, but today i gave a tail part, and he ate it.
i gave him anothre fleshy part, and he refused it.

weird!

any ideas?

i really wanna train him for pellets lol
but i tried already, went 3 weeks with no food and still wouldnt take pellets.

should i go for longer with no food to force pellets?
im scared for my other fish in the tank as he might eat them, though they are too fast and big, when i starved him he seemed semi interestedin the clonw loaches.

should i keep feeding him and offering the food i intend to feed, so he learns that thats the only food available?
 
off topice but how much pellets does everyone usually feed their aros? mine is 20 inch and i feed him about 40 a day. i feel like its not enough cuz hes always so hungry. and hikari aro pellets aint cheap. i tried feeding a couple of koi pellets but he spit it out.
 
I really want my aros to eat pellets!
never been able to get them to do so
will try
i dont mind spending hte money if they get the pellets with full nutrition.
but, they dont need much vits
so a massvire or two a day should have enough vits.

my rtg is bout 14 15 inch.

Henward mine's not been eating properly for months mate. It only eats about 5 super worms a day, then every week or so it'll pig out.

seems though that when aros get big, they taper in apptetite.

my 1.5 red has also tapered, though he is more consistent. predictable lol
but thats ok.

My jar eats shrimp once a week lol sometimes less.
 
yea, we dont get azoo pellets here. NZ has a limited asian aro market!
last year only 12 to 15 came in in total. some arent even sold yet.

and the next lot wont come for another couple of years lol

unless i wanna pay 4000NZ dollars to get a high grade customer shipped in
 
yeha, it sok, i like hikari - also my polys love hikari massivore and they get fat on it too!

NZ, new zealand doesnt have many tropical fish here.
no gar, no pikes, no bass, no black arowanas, no endlis, no giant cats, no rays...........

if we could i woul dhave them all.
