My arowana stopped eating!

I heard that if you do too many water changes too frequently, the nitrogen cycle starts itself over again as well as you lose most of the nitrifying bacteria in the tank, but this could be wrong.

How could not doing enough water changes affect the arowana so drastically and quickly?

i just did 80% on my 75 and 29. tomorrow i will do 50% on my 120.

Be careful changing that much water, don't do such big changes frequently or it'll restart your cycle.

Its true if you do too much, it could cycle your tank again, but thats only if you do like 60-80% everyday. 25% a day won't restart the cycle. Doing water changes replenishes minerals and vitamins in the water. It also cleanses out the dirty stuff. I suggest you just start doing 25-40% water changes every other day or every third day and just stick with that. Theres really no need for testing water if you keep it clean. KISS is the way to go.

I still don't understand how infrequent water changes is able to kill the fish, especially if the water tests come out fine.

it might not be but seeing it's affecting probably your most vulnerable fish first it's a good guess... do you put salt in the tank?

well try this. do a 25% WC a day for the next 3 days and see if he improves. don't forget to re-add the salt. and keep an eye for other signs of illness.
