I have just called the local aquarium in coney island and they said that they usually will take donations of large fresh water fish. They have a huge exhibit there and it would be good to see the aro have a good home. I really have my heart set on the silver and have put this 180 together just for it. I plan to take good care of it and relocate it once it outgrows the tank. Hopefully that will be years from now. I will post pics of the juvenile fish asap. Btw the shovelnose is about 4" long at the moment. Do they grow fast? I saw it in the lfs in a 10 gallon tank so I think this is a significant improvement.

TSN's grow about 2-4" a month, which is much faster than arowanas.

Your arowana will last about 2 years or so in there, if not less.

Definitely donate them when they are huge instead of sell to LFS.

I am currently trying to control feeding so that ammonia and growth rate are not a huge problem. I am having trouble feeding the geophagus surimensis and the teascup stingray.

If you are going to donate them then why stunt them?
The geo will be food soon enough, with the ray you should try and feed it with tongs.

You should've quarantined your ray first, especially becuase its a retic. They have the most chance of coming in bad shape infested with parasites and refusing food. Best if you can seperate the ray for now and try feeding things like ghost shrimp or blackworms. If you cant seperate the ray, you can try the tongs, but you're practically screwed since you have that TSN in your tank which will probably eat everything before your ray even has a chance at it.

The tsn doesn't eat much. He seems content with a couple of pellets a day. The geos grow to abou 12" or more so I don't think they will become lunch. The Ray is doing well just needs some target feeding. Thanks for advice. Of and if it makes you happy and you think it is better I'll bring the grown fish to the lfs when the time comes.

Just got some black worms and the stingray is loving them. I would like to ween him off them eventually. Hopefully he will start to eat pellets. It is not easy to find live black worms.
