1/12/2013 added some giant danios as teacher fish, he killed the biggest 1 within 10 mins but the others seem ok so far, fingers crossed...

You can also see the damage caused by the barbs

How about some Bala sharks? Interesting that the TFB were aggressive. Must be because the ATF is still so young.

I have read that ATF's attack them relentlessly?

Yea I was surprised that they was aggressive, I wondered if it was because I could only get 2 they was more aggressive to any possible threat?

I was surprised he attacked the danios as much as he did, they wasn't that much smaller than him and he couldn't eat them so he just bit them in half and left them to die :(

Are teacher fish essential to pellet train an ATF? And would it matter if the bala's are bigger than him?

What about mollies? They are definitely to big to eat, reasonably cheap and I could re home them when he started eating pellets?

They're probably not essential, but they make life MUCH easier.

I'm the one who had trouble with balas. Max refused to tolerate their presence. It was the weirdest damn thing. Other people have used balas successfully however.

I can't help but wonder if your little ATF didn't beat himself up in the tank when the lights were out. It seems quite odd to me that a tinfoil would attack him. Do you have moon lights?

Hmmm, never thought of that, I immediately thought tinfoils because they was aggressive towards each other the night before.

No I don't have moonlights but I try to leave the room light on for at least 30 mins so it doesn't go completely dark instantly and could he have torn his own fins fairly badly? Especially his anal fin.

They can tear themselves up pretty badly when they spaz. They can even kill themselves by smashing into the side of the tank.

I've seen TFBs fight amongst themselves all the time. They are social fish and constantly bicker amongst themselves for position in the pack. The squabbles are normal IMO and nothing to be concerned about. I've personally never seen one go after any other type of fish however.

Ok thanks, I will try putting them back in and let you know how it goes, I will post if anything changes :)
