My baby Arapaima Gigas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would get a cover on the tank.. A good solid acrylic one maybe an inch thick for weight so you don't have to block the light trying to hold the lid down :)

Yea, ordered a custom made one yday, will receive it tmr, its not an inch thick, but 20mm, so it should have enough weight to hold it down! :)

nice the 6ft tank should last it about 1 month then what

how big is your freinds pond

dude, im sorry to rain on you parade but that is really irresponsible.
as much as we want things sometimes, u have to wait until you are fully capable AND SOME to jump into something like gigas care.

i'd love a ray but i know i just cant give it what it needs, so i would leave it in the store to hopefully be picked up by someone else who would hopefully be more devoted than me.

not getting a ray now gives me something to look forward to and prepare for so when i get it i can do my best to make it as happy as possible.

come on man. sell it or something. it needs a better home.

(with it going crazy at night, maybe get a nightlight in the room or one of those dim internal tank lights to make a more gentle transition fro light to dark. i think the same thing happens with some arowana, i dont know because i dont have one because at present i am not capable of caring for one!)

do the right thing! :)

you realise they can get over 8 foot in lenght right?

While it's not the most responsible 6ft tank or not there are other members who have had them(and still do) in smaller than 1k gallon tanks and gave them up to friends/or plan to, and some who have thought of buying one to grow it out and bar-b-que it later. So while you might not approve at least he has a good home for it later or a plan.

I'm betting 90% of them end up in similar situations you just don't see them posting pictures on the internet. There are at least 100's brought into the u.s. every year probably more like thousands. People wanting to make a buck is what gives into selling extremely large growing fish to just anyone. And hassling one guy because he bought a pima, wants a couple answers but has a friends pond to put it in while you might deter him won't change the 100's of other people who have them and don't have a pond to put them in.

Just give him a break. And jude time to get off the soap box.
