The legality of them is this: They are CITES App II (for now). That means you have to have a permit to move them across an international border (worldwide regulation). Each animal will have it's own paper work saying it was moved legally. That paper work should stay with the animal as it gets moved around. If a gov't agent shows up at your door and you don't have the paper, good luck proving it's legal and not a black market animal smuggled in. Also, any time it crosses a border, you have to reapply for the permit to move them.

In the US, they also fall under various state regulations and prohibited species lists. Some states have let the local gov't take over this.... so you must check ALL the laws before getting into it.

I doubt the government agent will stop by your home and check if you have illegal fishes or not.. Unless you make a big rant / fuss over the internet :P

and if they do.. then down down down under the toilet bowl :P

Wonder why ppl bother putting pemas in their tanks. Old kidney shaped inground pools would be ideal. Those old pools have rounded corners for the pemas to maneuver in. :)

You'd be surprised at how many people get busted.

you r totally crazy to get a fish that is going to grow so big..... how are you gonna take care of it when it is full grown at 15 ft? those fish should definitely not b sold as pets... i must admit they are pretty cool though

Hot pot! :) yum yum :D

Bet Arapa taste very good :D

What do you mean "the waters not ready yet"???

If the filter media in that tiny tank is keeping up with the bio load(cycled tank)... take all of the media out of that filter and add it to the canister,w/d,hang on the back etc on the big tank.... stand on one leg, left hand on your right testical, screaming "pima's shouldn't be availible to the public" and budda boom... you got yourself a cycled tank :D

He can give it to the public aquarium. XP

no use thinking that when you buy a fish you know you wont be able to keep. most public aquaiums have already got too many fish and dont want more.

Correct. We can't take any animals just because. Especially controlled species like this. There are only a handful of Aqauriums that can handle an adult Arapaima in the US, not to mention needing the paperwork. It's a tough fight to make the fish legal after it's here ilegally. It took me three months.
