I have a California sturgeon has two hole in it's head and keeps trying to putting it's head above water all the time It is in there with tropical fishes. the water is around 64-70degrees. I not sure what is causing it? i lost two of them already to the almost the same paralist. i did 15percent water change in my 40 gallon. it's only temporaly until it gets big enough so i can throw it into a huge pond. i believe it is called hemtp?? or somthing like that sorry i know i mispelled it.

sorry for the poor resolution.... because it was in an emergency, it is off my camera phone.

Any suggestions?

do water changes, get a good current going add 2 or 3 air stones, keep the water cool and hope for the best...

has it been eating? have you ever seen it eat? it looks really small, maybe it has the wrong diet!

it eats like a pig off of high protein pellets.

yeah i will add a bubbler to my 50g aquaclear powerhead.

Add more than one do a few...These guys need TONS of oxygen in the water.

Does no matter what you do it is a dead fish... Sorry but just by looking at the pics I can tell you this. The fish is underfed and will not recover. It has starved to death as most young sturgeon do in captivity. adding more oxygen is not going to help it any.

Sorry for your loss as these are really cool fish..

thanks for the tip! i wonder how my zoo do it the got 5 of them alive!

fat?
The pictures show a sturgeon that looks to be in poor condition. They generally dont do well in tanks, even as youngsters. What do you mean by putting their head above water? They do often bob their head out of water in tanks...
