I read a post about someone saying that feeding a fish more would accelerate it's growth, but by doing so it would decrease the fish's life span due to it reaching it's adult size quicker. I believe it was just a theory, but if it is true then that would explain my Betta dying. I would post a link, but I forgot the thread it was posted in.

Well that is true. Black bettas are a little more uncommon because the females are sterile apparently

Just did a water change as the new Betta was temperature acclimating. The old Betta's fins never tore, but I want to play it safe, so I added some sand to make sure his fins wouldn't tear. 20160718_124731.jpg 20160718_130519.jpg

I do 50-70% once wcery 2 weeks. My betta is fully grown and nitrate doesnt get that high

It's just the Betta and snails. Sometimes I would forgot to do the water change on the Betta's tank, so it was closer to 3 %90 water changes every two weeks.
After having my Betta die I want to stay with 2 %90 wc's a week. I don't want anything happening to the new one.
