Hello,
if you wonder about the pale colour of the Teugelsi ... the pics were made at night. To focus the fish i had to use the rare room light and to light the fish flash.
Some bichirs are coloured different by night: Polypterus teugelsi and Polypterus lapradei.
Here's a pic of my lap at night:

No, no! He has - as all my other bichirs - a perfect technique to spit out the gravel AND keep the pellets in his mouth! My snakeheads do it the same way ... so this is no reason to get trouble about.

I was worried about the gravel thing as well but I see mine spitting out the gravel and chomping down on the pellets. It is almost like they toss the pellets up and spit out the gravel....
