My Biggest flood ever!/ADHD Flood Story

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That sucks, floods are never fun but retelling them and reading about them are :D

i had a bright idea once that since my python didnt reach and the bathroom was oh so close to some tanks that i would hold one end of the a siphon hose to the bathroom faucet while the other end was in the tank, i thought let me push the hose into the faucet so water forces it way to the tank......yeah...sure...apparently bathroom plumbing doesnt like pressure build up in the faucet so what it does is that leaks through the plumbing in the cabinet under the sink...right where i keep makeup, and oh yes...the bag of cotton balls :D:D YAY!

"i am so smart...s-m-r-t !"

I think I might win for worst flood

No, that's not the car leaking down the driveway... that's the house leaking :nilly:

Overflowed (well, that's putting it mildly) my 150 gallon tank. It's not in the garage, its not in the laundry room right inside, it's not in the kitchen, and it's not in the little hallway, but go 'upstream' through all those into the office, and you would find my unattended waterfall of a tank :irked:

Nice cars. Very bad flood though.

The only one I ever did was a 29 gal overflowed. I was typing a post on some forum (cough MFK cough) and I forget I was filling my tank. The really sad part is that the tank was only 4 ft behind me and the python hose runs rite under my feet. Well eventually the carpet got soaked enough that it was actually making a splashing noise. Thats when i noticed i had the problem.

You know all you have to change is about 33% of the TANK water...I do believe the HOUSE water doesn't need changing...
Sorry for LMFAO, but this is almost as bad as my mishap...I had to use a 2" hole saw in the floor when I got back from work...
Mine was all upstream from the front door to the bedroom...good thing I was in a rental:screwy: :screwy: :screwy:

O, in hindsight, I think it's funny. I'm so laid back, most things don't stress me out, but this one did

I had one of my cars loaded up (you can see the back corner of it) and I was planning on leaving early the next morning to take it across the country to a few races. I was in that last minute super-stress out, and finally thought "screw it, I'm just going to head out now" so I did some last minute things, like laundry, water change, etc. I've overflowed tanks before... you know, the classic "I'll just check my email real fast" type stuff, and I have this rule now that I will sit and watch the tank fill, or at least NEVER leave the room. Well, the tanks filling and I think "O, I'll just throw that last load of laundry in the washer" so I do that... but once I'm in the laundry room, I think "O, I should put the folding chairs in the truck before I forget" so I go to the back garage to get those. And while I'm there I see a CD changer, and I think "O, I'll just throw that in the truck, it will make the driving a lot easier" (It was only one wire to connect, and I was just going to plunk it on the transmission tunnel, not really run wires and install it, so I thought it would take 2 minutes).

Well obviously me and my distractability was a serious issue by now

I was in the truck, messing with the stereo (truck was hooked to the trailer and backed in the driveway) and this lightbulb o' panic goes off "O crap... the tank!!!"

So I run up the driveway and see this water streaming down (that pic was taken later.... it was more impressive at first), I almost bust my butt slipping on the ceramic tile in the kitchen (that's really the classic final shot to an overflow.... almost killing yourself as you go to try and fix it!) and it was honestly bad.... really bad.

Like I said, I'm usually pretty laid back... when the hurricane knocked a tree on one of my cars (I love my cars) I just kind of thought it was funny (no bad damage, but the car was totally buried in 'tree').... but this situation, NOT funny. I seriously thought I ruined my house (I had bought it maybe 8 months earlier). I called my mom crying :nilly: telling her that I'm standing in 2" of water in the kitchen and I ruined my house and I don't know what to do!!

I think her response was "well, at least your floors will be clean!"

Anyway, it all cleaned up fine, and I don't think there was any real damage done. I swept the water out from the kitchen/hall/laundry room through the garage, then shop vac'd as much as I could out of the carpet. My dad came and helped pull up the carpet (the tank is in a carpeted room) and we stuck a fan under it, then I headed out the next morning for my trip. It did soak a bunch of the boxes I hadn't unpacked from the move that you can see taking up 1/2 my garage... but it made it easier to throw stuff out, so I guess that's good. :)

My worst flood was almost emptying a 125 gallon tank, during cycling, because I forgot to attach the return hose to the FX5. It began spewing water like a fountain, not just powered by gravity but actually being pumped out onto my floor. I don't think my carpet has recovered, but I wasn't thrown out of the house- the small blessings.

All's well that ends well!

good story.

I think I have you all beat.

Several years ago I worked in a store that had an indoor pond of 1200 gallons, with a 12 foot tall real rock waterfall. My manager, who has a tendancy to be crude with medicating, dumped a bottle of Melafix into the pond a few minutes before closing time. Now it wasn't much of an overdose, less than an extra half dose. but this tea tree oil product makes a foam in water that is very turbulent. Well this water coming fron the waterfall is very turbulent so in no time the pond was foamed over completly.

Genius me, decided to help by putting a giant net in the waterfal to help collect the froth. It was working well, but when we left the net remained in place.

The next morning I come in to find a coworker Dave cleaning a flood that spanned from the pond, 50 feet towards the front of the store and about 70 feet side to side. 6 other people joined the effort to have it dry before opening hour. (Dave, you are the only one who knows I did it, Hahaha).

top that. I hope for all your good, that no one can.
