My biggest mistake..

Odd..and very sad. How did you remove the gravel? Could something have been inadvertantly introduced into the water that the Dats may have been espeically sensitive too while removing gravel? Maybe a chemcial you may have had on your skin?

wow-im so sorry! if you tank was only set up for one month, then it was just at the end of a cycle.. and not established yet.

wow, sorry to hear bro,

i also agree that if the tank was established and the filter was running during the hold time, there may have been another cause........ maybe taking out the gravel spiked the tank (too much for the filter to handle)? was the gravel clean?

All fingers seem to be pointing to the removal of the gravel as the culprit,so sorry for your loss.i did notice that the fish i traded you were all still alive.

man that really sux bro, again sorry for your loss I too love dats and it always sux to see nice dats go..

This is definately weird IMO; i too have removed and returned the gravel from my tank without any problems, and like they said with a wet/dry filter running for over a month it really odd... I must have removed and returned my gravel at least 6 times; dont ask me why I was bored but each time never had any issues...

Again so sorry for your loss...

do you gravel vac when you do water changes?? because I agree you musta had a spike when you disturbed the gravel....

Hi sorry to hear about your dats, maybe taking the gravel out took out too much filter bacteria as they cover everything that's in the tank including the glass, so if you removed all the gravel in one go then you would have had a massive ammonia spike especially as there was quite a few fish in there, with less fish it probably wouldn't have been so severe, but i still can't understand why only the dats were affected it's strange, i would have thought the aro would be the first to go ! hope this gives you a few thoughts about what might have happened, it could also happen if you put all them fish in in one go as your tank has only been set up a month and the bacteria couldn't establish fast enough to keep up with the waste being produced good luck for the future Paul
