My biggest mistake..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow that sucks sticky another horrific loss
i still dont understand why you took the gravel out though

wow...did you have like major flow? If you have major flow through your gravel I can see how it would take up a fair share of the bioload as it would get the ammonia first...still it seems odd. I pulled all my gravel once and replaced it with slate and had no problems.

Couldnt you have just made up the ammonia/nitrite spike with extra water changes?

Something seems fishy...did you take the params of the tank while it was happening?

Wow that's tragic and very odd that no other fish were affected young black aro is as sensitive as a large wide bar, wouldn't you think?

BTW the reason why you lost all your fish was in fact because the majority of the Beneficial Bacteria colonizes in the gravel. Therefore, by removing all the gravel in the tank, most of your BB was lost instantaneously. sorry for the lost and a well learned lesson!

I'm sorry for your loss. The problem is you take all your gravel out AND 50% of the water... Should be one at a time, with at least 3 days in between for the system to adjust... I'm not sure on Indo or NTT, but widebar is very hardy fish. I had one jump out of the tank for god know how long (there was a 1 hour gap between when I saw him in the tank and when I saw him on the floor of my garage with temp around 50), but he made it after all

Sorry to hear about your loss. At least its a lesson to me not to do that, and i will be very cautious when i move everything to another tank to reseal my 125
