I DIDNT KNOW THAT THEY MOTED!!!!

I thew in 4 regular red crayfish into my cichlid tank as a snack and everynow and then i would see 2 tail shells float along the top, and i thought that they ate them but then i would see two to three of them, i was scratching my head wondering what was going on, then after i saw a 1/4 of a body floating along i kind of figured out that that time it was eaten. i guess i never gave it any thought, thanks, and also AMAZING PICTURES!!! i realy love good work.

It is quite a shock when you see the MOLT process for the first time.. It looked like i had two crayfish lobsters ..the molted body was the exact duplicate of the real live one.... amazing!!!;)

I brought mine and after two days it molted, I thought to myself "F*** dead after two days" was so upset that I took it out with the net and threw it in the toilet. Came back later it was there exploring the aquarium, I was like WTF! LOL

The shell was the one not moving and almost empty inside, but it had everything including legs and all, so I thought it was dead! Silly me

Btw I am still trying to find out whats best to feed it. I buy muscles and all sorts of pellets high in calcium, some peas that she loves.

Anything else? thanks

Also nice dog :)

Sorry but because i lost mine after such a short period of time ..i never got into all the other foods to introduce to my cray.. i was lucky he lasted through the summer from pond to aquarium so that i could at least experience the joy of watching him and learning about him..when the pet store gave him to me they told me he was elderly etc.. i posted on MFK and asked how long they live.. now that i had him i wanted him to stick around..i remenber giving him algae pellets.. and it was so cute how he would watch them float down to him and grab it and run for shelter so no one else could get it.{even though there was no one else in the tank} I often thought about getting another but so far i quess i have enough to take care of.. i am sure if you search this section {Invertebrates you will find old posts with alot of info on different foods..My dobes my is my great red devil .....thanks.. !!;)

I know its not in the spirit of this thread but mine are ment to be food and they more or less scavenge the left over food off the floor amd eat the algea. and untill they get eaten they do very well...and like i mentioned they even molt, often i would only find the tail section, i am thinking to buy a blue like yours for my community tank and feed it crab food(Pellets)

Don't forget next time to leave the shell in with him a couple of days because he will eat it and try to gain back some of the calcium lost during molting.. :)

I have since that first incident ;) I was told that on an earlier post thanks :)
It has molted about 6/7 times since I got it just over a year ago.

no thats just a reg blue crayfish its the aussie blues that get to be huge your guy will probally never get more than 6"

I have to disagree with the growth statement.
They can grow much larger than 6 inches.
And if it is the Walkamin Strain it will grow twice as fast as the regular Redclaw...
I have Redclaw or Cherax Quads that are 15 inches in length(nose to tail)....
They are over 2 years old but they are large none the less.....
