My cichlid tank is super dirty!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you have quite alot of messy eaters and just imagine their waste.. What filtration and food are you using? Small frequent WC's every other day and adding another filter wouldn't hurt! i would love to see a picture

Clean out the filters and rinse the media too.

Sucky pic but not home only one I got of it looking gross at the moment, will show better one later tonight! But it's not as bad as maybe some people are thinking just a bit murky and some feces not getting sucked up. Just put new filter pads on one filter will clean everything soon

If it's usually better but hasn't had the usual attention lately that may be the answer. With an overstocked tank, keeping on top of water changes, filter fiber or filter pad rinsing (with tank water or well water, not chlorinated tap water), and gravel vacuuming can make all the difference. I have an Aqueon 400 gph Quietflow on one of my tanks-- an effective filter for a hang on filter ime (depending how you set it up with media). But as a fast filter and not a huge media chamber they need to be rinsed regularly ime with a decent size tank or stock level.
