My Cobalt Blue Lobsters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You know what, I was thinking the same thing. I do think they are marbled now but he was selling them as blue. I've been looking into it. I agree with you, I think they are marbled.

On the plus side, before long you'll have an endless supply of crunchy treats for your cichlids. :) That's half the reason I'm looking at getting some (aside from liking crays in general). You can probably keep 8 or 10 adults in a 75g too. Maybe more. If they are Marbles they only get around 3" max, and they are relatively non-agressive as crays go.

I'm not 100% sure on the turning blue thing. I've only seen one person that actually explained it, and he said it's based on water hardness. Really hard water supposedly brings out some reddish color, medium is the common brown color, semi soft causes some blue highlights on the legs and claws, and super soft water turns them all blue. I'll end up testing it myself when I get some probably.

I don't think staying in soft water is ideal for crays though. They need the medium to hard water to help their molting process from what I understand. Might be ok if you keep an egg shell in the tank for them to snack on to boost calcium. I've read about people doing that.

Well if they have babies I'll give you some for free. I was told they were cobalts but researching makes me think they are marbles. They have a slight blue to them, I have medium water hardness. That is what I read too about the hardness. The colour depends on the hardness. I put egg shells in their for them all the time, extra calcium. I think they don't even need a mate to breed.

Hey Chicklette Can you tell me where you got them Ive been looking cant find any in Ont. Hard water is better for color and their shell. They need calcium to keep their shell hard. I can show you a pic of my red claw beautiful color. Thanks Pat ps They do look like marbled.

they do look more like the marbled cray... i had a blue and wow they are awesome little guys.. good luck with them... will they all get along long term?

I got them off a guy in my area off KIJIJI. Sorry you can't fine them. He sold them to me for $5. I give them eggs shells and food with calcium in it. I bought it off the net.

Yes, Im getting them a 75 gallon tank. If they have enough hiding spots they should be fine.
