Have no clue on where to get red garnet type sand either. Only places are online. There's experienced poly keepers in Texas as well. Maybe, other keepers can chime in on this. Aside from red. There's lots of pros and con to each color.

I'll continue to read up on it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ihave a black sand, its fine if you dont mind that some of the bichirs will become darker, idk if the lap will but my endli became dark grey and black. But when they are in the rocks their color goes back to normal.

Interesting. I feel like all of my bichirs are too light in color so I will switch to a darker colored sand. I've heard a lot about Black Diamond Blasting Sand which is pretty cheap. If lighting has anything to do with their colors, I have some color max bulbs (pink) that I could use instead of these 6500k I have right now. I've also thought of taking off one of my fixtures to create a darker tank to make them more comfortable.

Idk if light has to do anything from them, but i know im polys are more active when i took out the second light, i used to have two lights one on each side and i read somewhere on the forum that polys like less light. So i took one light out and put the other one in the middle.

Are you referring to the white 7? I've seen someone try to distinguish P. bichir lapradei and P. bichir bichir by this white 7. I don't remember what they ended up proving though. I believe my endli has it as well.
That is what I was looking at. There are a few factors to distinguish a pbb like finlet count and other stuff but the '7' is one thing to look for too. Cant wait to see pics of it settled in.
