i would put it right in the middle try to balence the weight the best you can you don't wan't one side to be heavier then the other which would give a risk of the desk wobbleing which would be the most likely way that it would break
Do you have weight like the kind you work out with ? that or a large rock will work for this . I would test it first clear every thing off of the desk and then put about 300 pounds on it it will work best if you use weight instead of rocks rocks are hard to weigh and get a correct weight then try and see if it seems stable and see if it will rock back and forth eazy if it looks like it will hold and doesn't rock back and forth eazy it should work
