Looks much better with the sand but you've also got it way too thick in my opinion. I've got about 1 1/2" of sand in my tank but that's in preparation for my Eartheaters. I'd cut it back to 3/4" or 1".

Like the sand, it's darker than mine. Pretty sure the cons like it too, looks like some convict landscaping going on in there 
C_B the tank looks so much better. One last thing would really perfect it though and this is totally up to you of course. Lose that peice of tank decor and exchange it for real driftwood and PRESTO you have a totally natural and beautiful fish tank. If you don't it's already a thousand times improved now but think about it.
Nice really nice, and I agree take that unnatural decoration out and put that piece of driftwood in you have and you have a all natural tank. Looks great...TAKE about 1 1/2" of sand out that is too much.
