So my dad went out fishing today with his uncle, and aside from catching some stripers he caught this dogfish. Would have loved to gone with him and get some pics during the catch but I was working all day. The cooler that its on is a little more than 2 feet, so with the head and tail hes almost 3 feet. Good little catch.

I'm in Mass - these things are everywhere! Why did you kill it?

Because catching it is only half the fun... not to mention its some good eating and can use what we don't eat for some more fishing.

Good god, does no one here eat what they catch?

I pretty much practice catch and release, but sustainable fishing practices are fine by me.

Shark meat is excellent, however since the shark was not gutted and bled immediately I think the meat may be ruined.

... Uh oh... lol, I'll let you know tomorrow if he cooks it then :D

Dogfish are NOT good eating, and I'm not sure what the law is about them. And I have heard some things about them being protected as well.
Way to go.
Also, dogfish eat anything and everything - so even if it were good to eat, it would not be a healthy meal.

Are you kidding me, http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dmf/recreationalfishing/rec_index.htm

Dogfish are one of the fish on which there are no regulations on, the season is open all year, no size limit, and no possession limit. But I haven't had dogfish yet, but well soon see.

There was one species that was protected - black tipped dogfish or something like that. Must have confused with this one.

But... I would hate to be whoever eats that fish. I'm anxious to hear.
