My dad caught a dogfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, I usually don't like taking fish, I always do feel bad for them, but always follow the rules. Never take undersized fish or more than the limit, and always am a dick about it when my friends try to do either of the two. But I always grew up with fishing and always treat the waters with respect, i.e. don't throw my beer bottles and cigar butts in after I am done with them, even though I don't drink or smoke. It was a beautiful shark, and if I caught it, I would have released it just because it is so cool looking, but my dad was out with it and is an intense fisher so it was up to him. But I do under stand where the catch/release guys are coming from.

Makes for two of us - nice going on your philosophy

Just because a fish eats anything and everything doesnt mean that theyll taste bad! Take FW catfish for instance...eat anything yet are mighty tastey!

With sharks you are suppose to bleed them out and clean them soon after landing as the urea in their bodies quickly taints the meat. Oh and cleaning shark is no fun. Its like trying to cut rawhide with a butterknife!

Hmmmm... interesting... Looks like it was a fun catch. :D Be sure and let us know what it tastes like. I've never had shark before.

We eat those sharks all the time. Just cut the head off(with guts), peal the skin off, then cut into patties(steaks). You can fry, make sauce, ect:drool:

can confirm that too. here in Portugal we also eat dogfish and its a delicacy.
however i agree fully with catch&release on sportsfishing and any preventive laws on industrial fishing to avoid overfishing of species. so... eat this one and release the next ones.:banhim: :shark:

Thats a nice Altantic Smoothhound, its a shame its dead. But if the meat ect. is put to good use I am fine with the practice. You should have sent it to me, I have been trying to get my hands on a Smoothie for my system. Hard to come by up in Canada haha

All sharks must be bled quickly!!! If not the urea will taint the meat. The only chance you MAY have is to try to soak it in milk overnight. As far as you others saying dogfish tasted good, you must be talking about the spiny dogfish(delicacy in England) because the smooth that we have in Cali taste like *****
