My dads idea...Will it work? Filter with out a pump!?!?!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There are other means of moving water...
the SUN comes to mind first, then
there is the good ol'wind

I can see him not wanting to use more electricity than necessary,

Get along side of him and find out what he's doing, instead of telling your Dad he Can't do something...

He could always "CUT OFF" your electricity, if he wanted to save some money...HUH?

I saw an air lift filter at a koi show a couple of months ago. Moved about 3000 GHP. It's an above ground pond connected to a barrel at the same level as the pond allowing water to flow into it. An air pump blown air into a pipe lifting the water up a over back into the pond. Uses way less energy than a water pump.

you could heavily plant the pond and let the plants filter the water, assuming your fish don't eat the plants.

Also I suppose you could just throw the filter media on the ponds bottom but thats not anywhere as effective as pushing water past it.

the plant scenario is probably the best answer, but why don't you get your electric bill and do the math to figure out how much a pump will actually cost in electricity.

it will probably be around 6 dollars a month.

I am helping my dad make a above ground pond :D

Dimensions are 8X5X3 about 897 gallons.

A heavily planted pond would need no other filtration if done correctly, keeping the plants separate from the fish so they don't get grazed on.

Isn't there a member who has many many tanks/ponds on a hillside down south somewhere?...I know he uses no other filtration but plants...

What kind of stock is your father going to keep?
