My Daughter scrubbed my flowerhorn.

I have two tanks. One for the flowerhorn and the another one for slipper turtles.

My daughter (5 years) some times wanted the turtles out of the tank, to play with them. I used to take them out and wipe them with a cloth to make them dry, before giving them to her. She used to see that.

Today morning when i cam out of the room. I saw my FH was out of the tank and my daughter was scrubbing it with a towel. :irked::cry::irked:

I asked her what was she doing so she told me straight forward. that the fish was dirty, so she took it off using the fish net and was cleaning it. other wise she will fall sick. i could not even shout at her. She might have worked really hard to take out the fish and to clean it.

Thank God i saw it on time. and put the fish back in the tank.

Now the fish has got black patches allover its body, and looks to be very stressed. is not eating . Please let me know what needs to be done. The coloring is gone. the fish has become dark brown with black patches all over the body,

At the same time i want to say that's very cute but man poor FH. It seems like she might have scrubbed the protective slime from the fish.

I'm not sure but try putting the Stress-Coat?

add some aquarium salt it will make it get a slime coat

i also hope it was not out of the tank too long.. definitly protective coat was damaged and maybe internal injuries if she was too rough.. i hope you told her what a mistake she made..even at this age she can understand.. maybe get a childs book on fishkeeping you can read her at night.. nice that she is so interested and not afraid.. poor FH though..stress coat is an additive that helps their slime coat remain healthy and build up new slime ..

+1 on the salt. lol kids are too observant!!! :)

you can get stress coat at any fish store... it should be with dechlorinators...

good luck....
priceless story for your daughter though...
it'll be a story to tell about her for a lifetime . . .
