i also hope it was not out of the tank too long.. definitly protective coat was damaged and maybe internal injuries if she was too rough.. i hope you told her what a mistake she made..even at this age she can understand.. maybe get a childs book on fishkeeping you can read her at night.. nice that she is so interested and not afraid.. poor FH though..strees coat is an additive that helps their slime coat remain healthy and build up new slime ..

She loves the fish and the turtles. and was really very sad when i told her that she has nearly killed the fish. still she is sad as the fish is looking very ugly, and it not moving much, fish is hiding behind the filter , which used to be a very aggressive one, used to bang the glass when ever any one came near the tank.

She said she did this because she wanted the fish to be healthy, as the teacher told her that, its is very important to be clean to be healthy

My daughter has promised, she will never take out the fish. I tried to explain her that the turtles can be taken out of water but the fish can not live out of water.

I bought some stress coat at Walmart. Good luck.

Stresscoat and some salt should do the trick, you may want to leave the lights off so it can rest and not get stressed and dont worry about feeding for a couple of days.

Kids do the dardnest things, my son who is 3yr has feed my fish animal crackers as well dumped new bags of fish food int the tanks.

poor little girl.... i am an animal lover all the way.. when i was just a 4 year old .. i helped my moms canary {little bird} to drink some water ...i nearly drowned the poor thing...i never forgot it... so i am sure she won't forget either.. i hope FH will be okay....i am also amazed that she was able to catch the fish...

I hope that she doesnt feel too sad, my little 4 year old brother has his own little tank with gold fish and he takes pictures of my fish and, i have help him clean them and feed them, is giood to get them into it when young :)

Id add some tonic salt, stress coat and leave him with the light off to help himde stress and regenerate, keep some vbacterial treatment in, as his slimecat has gone and he'll be prone to infections,

I am amazed a 5 year old was able to net a fish, that is pretty amazing. Sorry she tried to cleaned it though, that is no good.
seriously! it takes petsmart people 10 minute to catch a simple fish :screwy:

oh my goodness, poor fishy!!!!!! =( ive got my 55gal on the floor in my room and i have a 17 month old.... you can only imagine how careful i have to be (i usually shut my door if shes awake.)

lol nice... my nephew tries to catch my flowerhorn but fails miserably and starts crying about how he can't catch a fish to eat....

stess coat is a conditioner with aloe in it. Prime also says it replenishs slime coat. If you can't find stress coat. I would but some 100%aloe from the store and put a little bit in tehre. Make sure it is 199% aloe vera though and nothing else. Epsom salt is different. Potassium chloride I think it is, or something like that. Sea salt, kosher salt, rock salt. You can get a big bag from home depot for like $5. The main reason for the salt is to help fight infections. Melafix may not be a bad idea either IMO. I would keep lights off and tank covered and your fish should be fine in time. Just keep water super clean bro.
