My Daughter scrubbed my flowerhorn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just your standard API stress coat and API Aquarium SAlt does the trick. found at almost ANY store with fish

If it makes you feel better, I woke up one morning when my son was 2 and he had woke up and snuck into the living room and dumped a whole bag of oreo's in the tank so they had something to eat. And we all know you need milk with oreo's. I woke up and was like WTF????

unless you are making brine solution you don't need to worry about iodine
rock salt will do the trick

@anurag
get a bigger tank or use a bigger tub atleast temporarily for that FH
as at this moment the water quality has to be real good as the fish right
now is very vulnerable to infections and fungus as its slime coat is lost
and 90 degree F temp would be a nice thing too

your daughter is quite intelligent to be able to catch a fish such as a FH, and it might have helped that the tank is quite small too

by the way which FH was it that your daughter mishandled
try getting rock salt, which is sold for like 4-5rs a kilo

Thanks every one for your concerns. I hope my fish lives. Its been 30 hours since the incidence. she is still fighting.

I have read that the iodine gets evaporated if you boil the water for 10 min. I have added 4 tea spoons of sea salt which i boiled in water for 10min, and then cooled it and added that into the tank. I also got 100% aloevera and added that too 4 tea spoons. PS:- i have a 30 gallon tank. still the fish i not moving much, changed 50% water before adding the things.

careful with boiled water as the oxygen content is reduced and the fish will be further stressed if theres lack of O2

i would guess it's a small amount. Just enough to disolve the salt. But the bro is correct, the higher the temp, the less oxygen in the water. You want to avoid fast temp and PH changes. that can further stress your fish. It's a good sign it's still hanginmg in there.

I just added a glass of water with 4 tea spoons of salt that i boiled till the water was half a glass.

Should i add more salt? The tank is 30 gallon.

Fish progress is as follows:-

Brown color it got after the incidence is gone. The dark black patches, which looked like wounds have reduced a bit.

gaining the base greenish yellow color. The red is almost very very light pink. showing little movement though. but it is constantly digging the gravel. as if want to bury him self. :(. Some times it vibrates as if he is getting hysteria attacks. is this some thing to be worried about.

im so sorry to hear this! your poor little girl thought she was helping.. its sad but years from now you two will laugh over this.

as far as the vibrating, i would say it sounds like he is healing, and those spots probably itch a little and feel weird- or maybe sting a little. i wouldnt worry about it.. add the stress coat if you havent and just keep his water VERY clean. if i were you, id bump up your waterchange schedule a little, just so his flesh doesnt get infected..

it sounds like he is traumatized, but im betting he makes it... great job so far!

the digging is a good sign, this isnormal FH behavior. That is enough salt IMO. If you remove 10 gallons at water change time, add another teaspoon. But sounds like your fish is getting better. It will take time but everything sounds good. Can you post picutes?

:iagree:
now that he is digging
its chiclid behavior
just keep the water quality pristine and add salt only to replenish the lost salt due to water changes

he should get alright they are quite hardy
an yup we need pics now
